Actually a "popular" OB recently told a nurse friend that when a mother
comes in with a birth plan there are smirks and jokes, and everyone knows
that there will be more interventions than usual with the goal of showing
the mother who is in control. The nurse said that she has seen that he
assesses labor progression differently when a mother has a birth plan.

So it is not the mothers whose goals are too high; it is the doctor whose
goals are unprofessional. It is commonly stated that the mothers with the
birth plans have a greater risk of c-sections and, as Deborah relayed, the
nurses *joke* about the fact. I suspect that this OB is not the only one
who practices in this manner.

And this is "medicine" where we do no harm.
