Actually, the job of BODs is to guide the company to profitability.
Certainly, they must abide by the law but they are under no obligation to act
on behalf of the greater good of society. As far as Boards are concerned,
that belongs in other realms entirely, including our own here on LACTNET.
They are not about social change unless it suits their bottom line; with
notable exceptions like "The Body Shop," conceived with the intent to do some
good (or at least "do no harm") as part of their mission statement.

With respect to Dr. Sears' possible Board membership, he may well be
thinking, "Can't beat 'em, join 'em" and hoping for change from within
whether that be Martek or Wyeth. I don't see anything in the Code to suggest
that sitting on a BOD is a violation in and of itself. But certainly the
website fiasco is.

Something else to think about. Perhaps Wyeth has got him over a barrel. He
wants DHA in formula, they want his name. The world spins on compromise.
Perhaps he is willingly letting his name be slaughtered for this.
