Thus, an advisor to our human milk banking system, is paid by the infant
formula industry. But I guess that's OK cause we all have to learn to get
along.....besides the WHO Code is unworkable in the USA. So as long as we
believe
privately in the WHO Code, we needn't practice it publicly in our professions
or
institutions.

I am getting very concerned about the tendency to dismiss anyone who has
anything to do with artificial milk as biased, unethical or intellectually
dishonest. Some of the statements are bordering on libel. I don't know Dr. Ziegler
personally, but his research over the last 25 years has been extremely valuable
for us neonatologists. I also take offense at the characterization of HMBANA
as "sell-outs".

I think we need to judge individuals as individuals, and each research study
on its merits. Of course I would prefer that no research on nutrition is done
with formula company money, but as long as there is honest disclosure of
support and involvement, I can live with reality. Paula Meier, despite funding
from Ross and Medela, also does supperb, intellectually honest research, and has
been a vocal supporter for breastfeeding in the NICU.
