Fellow Lactnetters,
I have already searched the archives, but now I want to ask for more. I
have a mom who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is nursing her
almost 3 year old and is now weaning -- immediately-- her surgery is
scheduled for mid-January. The doctors are recommending complete removal of
both breasts -- one for the cancer and the other for prevention. She is
already a wreck dealing with the fear (unfounded of course, but real to her)
that her daughter has been "eating cancer" for a very long time. What I
would like is for private e-mails from any of you who have been there and
would be willing to have her contact you for support or have moms you have
worked with who would be willing. While to others it seems ridiculous that
she even considers the weaning of her only child to be an issue in comparison
to the cancer, this weaning she was not ready for is part of her pain and
sorrow. I think it would be helpful if she had someone to communicate with
that valued her nursing relationship, understood the loss of her breast and
this whole ordeal. I of course understand on only one level, but can never
begin to understand the real fear she must be living through. If this is
possible, I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance for any help you have to offer,
Pam MazzellaDiBosco, IBCLC Florida
