I can say with certainty that Dr. Lawrence has NOT published an article on
herbs. She gave a talk on herbs at the AAP meeting in Chicago earlier this
year. She was quoted by and in the popular press, and the popular press did
misquote some of her statements.

(I do understand that an article related to this topic may be forthcoming,
but has not yet been published. Stay tuned.)

You need to be prepared for the worst from your boss. It appears from your
post that you have 'recommended' herbs, and it sounds like the NP, the RD,
and your hospital administration consider this as an action that is outside
of your scope of practice. (And remember, bottom line is that you're on the
hospital's payroll.)

You describe a baby that had some problems at delivery, was re-admitted for
dehydration, etc. I'm usually eager to be collaborative--and perhaps
conciliatory--on cases as complex as this. Should another bad outcome
occur, you might find yourself relieved that someone, other than you, has
shouldered the responsibility for making recommendations to this mom.

The NP referred to an
>article by Ruth Lawrence that came out recently (Jan?) stating that these
>herbs shouldn't be used.

>they don't recommend those herbs, they said and they don't want
>me recommending them to their patients or to anyone for that matter!
