Ann, are you 100% positive that this isn't reflective of a general "infant
feeding difficulty" vs. a BF difficulty? If using a thin, silicone shield and
still not transferring well and losing weight/production, I'd still be
suspicious of other underlying issues related to latch-on and/or suckling. If so, the
shield may be taking blame as the messenger vs. the real culprit.

Mother has other feeding options while baby learns if milk transfer is also
an issue with the shield and if"pumping regularly" means truly pumping enough
in every 24 hours.

Has she been doing Kangaroo-type care with baby so that the breast becomes a
pleasant place to hang out for baby (and mother)? I'd highly recommend no
matter what else is going on!
