I saw a mom tonight (have her permission to ask for ideas) who has an odd
situation. I helped her bf her first baby four years ago--terrible start in
the hospital--took 2 months to fully establish bf. She is due in a few weeks
and wants things to go better this time, so is the LC dream client who
prepares ahead of time! She had cardiac surgery about 6 years ago and since
then, has some loss of feeling in the skin on her chest. Since I last saw
her, she has had two unrelated things happen. She found a lump in her lower
right breast almost 3 years ago, which was removed, leaving a 2 inch
incision, diagonally towards the outer quadrant, quite far back from the
nipple. She could not remember what the lump was called, but has since found
what she thought was another, but on a mammogram, it was already gone. She
has "fibrocystic breasts". Since then she has had some degree of pain in the
right nipple. Since pregnancy, the pain has increased and she is worried
about bf'ing on that side. She says it feels like her nipple is being
"pinched". She also had a rather serious car accident, so I do wonder if the
pain is caused by some injury from the accident which has not been treated. I
am really trying to encourage her to see a chiropractor b/c her baby is
breech and if she does we can ask about this. We ruled out thrush, based on
her description of the pain and no visible indicators. She never had thrush
with her first baby. Could the surgery have injured a nerve? Any other
thoughts?
