  Carolyn,

I don't usually "prescribe" any particular amounts of water, but just
suggest that a sippy cup with water (and ebm too) can be introduced when
solids are introduced, when baby shows developmental readiness, including
sitting up.

For a baby over 6 months, just taking the breast, no water would be
recommended. If mom works and baby is falling off the growth curve, then a
detailed history/assessment needs to be done - e.g. feeding frequency,
feeding effectiveness (early problems, tongue tie?), milk production,
expressing pattern and volumes, pacifier use, night feeds, night sleep
stretches, contraceptive use, other meds, using any anti-galactagogues
(decongestants?), hx of any gi, nutrition, breast problems, thyroid, etc etc
