<< lactation education for pediatricians

Does anyone have any information regarding the current level and quality of
breastfeeding education of pediatric residency programs in the U.S.? Someone
I know is writing an article and would appreciate any info you might have.
Thanks, >>

In residency we are all trained to make sure that the mothers in our care be
extremely careful to keep the baby's nose far away from the breast so they
don't suffocate.

When I have a chance, I explain to residents (and new parents) that a species
which suffocated at the breast would have had a little evolutionary problem.

We are also carefully taught not to make mothers feel guilty if they don't
breastfeed.

Fortunately, many of the people on this list have gotten very involved in
residents' education and things have truly gotten much better. However, the
level of ignorance most pediatric residents bring to private practice has
been well-documented in recent studies. Anybody have those studies handy?
