Hi All,

I am working with two moms from my mom's group. First one has a baby girl
who is currently 7 months or so old and has just been diagnosed with Atrium
Septal Defect. She will be having open heart surgery in August to repair.
Baby is exclusively breastfed (yea!) very healthy, happy, developing
beautifully. The defect was found by accident at a routine check-up. Mom
is understandably scared and has a few questions I cannot answer so.here I
am.

Questions are: mom has chosen not to immunize (she and hubby did tons of
research and made a well-informed choice) - is baby at more risk due to
this? I told her I did not believe so but that is not my area of specialty.
Hopefully someone here can give me an answer based on more than my gut
feeling and basic common sense. :-) Also, she wanted to know if there were
any herbs or homeopathics she could take and pass through her breastmilk to
help speed baby girl's healing. Again, I told her probably not, but I would
ask. My better question would be are there homeopathics or herbs she can
give baby directly after surgery?

Mom #2 has been on a strict elimination diet for the past 3 weeks. Prior to
this, baby (7 mo) had green mucousy stools for a couple months. Mom went to
England for 3 weeks and the stools went back to normal yellow BF stools
within a week. When she came back and resumed her normal diet - they went
back to the green mucousy with a vengeance (moms words). She has eliminated
all nuts, dairy, wheat, soy and eggs. After a week, stools began to change
from green mucousy to orange and green and then to all orange for one week
now. She thinks it might be the peanuts since she tends to eat peanut
butter sandwiches and Thai chicken regularly.

My question is: Anything else she should eliminate? Baby seems to be
fairly happy and content - cute little guy! Should we really worry that
much about orange stools? Baby has not been on solids - just had his first
taste of sweet potatoes a week ago. Mom's questions is how long should she
wait after introducing each eliminated food to see a reaction? How much
should she challenge and for how many days? Would there be a better order
to add things back in?

Thank you for all your help!

Warmly,

Jaye
