Hi Natalie,

I went to your parenting.blogs-link and left this comment:

"Interesting, that young children are not supposed to see babies at breast. If they would see that image more often, we wouldn't have this stupid discussion. No one would take a second look, as everyone in the next generation would perceive female breasts as *the* place for a baby to be. How come, that breasts are seen as obscene (and breastfeeding as perverse), when functioning for what they were meant for, and a bottle with species-a-specific milk given to a newborn is not? Funny way of reverse thinking... Apparently, there is still of lot of educating to do for those who want to enlighten the ignorant, not about the advantages of breastfeeding, but of the disadvantages and risks of not breastfeeding. Get the reference straight: breastfeeding is the norm, making other forms of feeding a baby ab-normal. We don't plaster legs and hand out wheelchairs, when people can (learn to) walk, do we? As societies, we seem to err from our bodies and from interdependency, where it is normal to be supported through new experiences and get to know a part of your body that functions perfectly fine and will give your child a head start in life."

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
