Kathy, I don't have the study at home but there was one sited last year
about clipping frenulums. I found it to be a very good study so I sent it on to
the neo I work with to help pave the way to educating the pediatrician staff
on frenotomies.
His comments to me were why would anyone want to clip a frenulum if they can
just grow back. I was baffled by his comments so went back and reread the
article. In one small paragraph they addressed that older children who have
the surgery to release the frenulum have a higher rate of growing back the
frenulum. Now did it say "growing back" verses a poor results, I don't recall.
I did write back to the neo and pointed this out and funny thing he has not
written me back.
I know in Massachusetts we really have a draught of clinicians we can turn
to for frenotomies. I would really love to see some traveling clinics who
train clinicians on how to assess and perform this simple and NEEDED procedure.
