I'm looking for some help on an interesting mom and baby. Could use some
help please!
Baby is 5 week old boy. Long L&D, long epidural, but bfing well by
discharge. Baby does have a club foot, and gets a new cast every week or so.
 Bfing excl. since birth.
The problem: Baby has dark green, watery stools x 2-3 weeks. First
thought was foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. Mom has been feeding off one
breast each feeding x 10 days with no improvement. Suggested trying one
breast x 2-3 feedings before changing breasts, but mom reluctant. Feels milk
supply is not that strong.
Baby has been gaining wgt fine. Difficult to tell exact weights because of
the freq. changes in his foot cast (sometimes its a little more or a little
less than previous cast). But mom says Dr. ok with weights.
Baby is very fussy, gassy. Baby has also developed a anal fissure. I
have not seen, but mom says Dr. says it is from "straining to have bowel
movement." Mom cannot understand this because "its only watery diarrhea."
Also had small. but visable bright red blood in stool.
mom tried diet elimination 2 weeks ago without any improvement. She
strongly feels is it not her diet causing problems.
Dr. is doing some tests on baby: stool exams, and mom said checking
"sweat test."
Any ideas? Mom determined to bf. But something is not right.
Thank you for your help.
