Just a thought on this subject:
When my oldest was in kinder, I read an essay by a mom about the "lasts" in
her relationship with her children. It was inspired by trying to pick up
her child and she was unable to do so. Her point was that moms are
extremely focused on the developmental firsts and miss the lasts. My
second,now 7, weaned herself very abruptly at 23 months. I didn't have
time to ease into it, and mourned the loss. With my third (now almost 4),
and last, I try to stay conscious of upcoming lasts, especially since it
is "the last time." When she self-weaned at 30 mos, I realized that I
would never nurse again. I've shared the "last" story with many clients
and friends. Women who are looking forward to weaning often change their
perception.

Marita
(who didn't miss the "last" diapers at all)
