 The lightest twin
was around 4lbs 2oz at her lowest weight after birth. She is now 7lbs 15oz
at nine weeks. The worry is that the babies gained quite well in the
beginning but slowed their gain to about 3 1/2 oz the last two weeks (7oz
total). She has tried nursing each twin independently and found that it did
not decrease the active suckling time of either twin. She couldn't spend
that much time so is nursing them in tandem at all feedings.

My experience, as a mom who exclusively nursed twins, is that tandem nursing
is the only sane way to nurse for many months. I also found that though my
boys had 10 - 12 wettings in a day, they only gained 2 oz a week for many
months. I settled into accepting this, because everything else looked
great......hair, eyes, nails growing, skin, development, etc. Also....they
were gaining weight and steadily.....just slower than is the "norm" of 4+ oz
a week. I now have 17+ years of their life to view (that lovely 20/20
hindsight) and they have always continued to be slender bodies regardless of
the budget breaking massive quantities of food that go into those bodies.

Look at the Baby, Not the Scale
