When we give probiotics to an exclusively breastfed baby, are we interfering
with normal? At what age for the breastfed baby is giving probiotics
interfering/not interfering with breastmilk's own probiotic properties? Lately,
there seems to be a trend to put all babies on probiotics even exclusively
breastfed. With the 'some is good, more is better' mindset of some, I wonder
what impact it has on the breastfed baby.

There is a lot of information on probiotics in the archives, but not what I am
looking for exactly. I have found a few articles on line also about probiotics
and NEC in NICU for exclusively breastfed babies. However, I am thinking
more about the full term baby who is exclusively breastfed. What is the 'need'
for probiotics? Does breastmilk need probiotic supplementation?

thank you,
Pam MazzellaDiBosco, IBCLC, RLC
