speaking from experience, I would recommend a
counselor who is familiar with this work.  My dh and I
saw one, pre-children, and found our sessions to be
effective, concise and without negative side effects.
I've read his books and didnt' even notice the parts
about raising children- I was still recovering from
being a child.  :-(  What he said must have rang true
for me though.
