Hi everyone. I was VERY angered to see that the AAP was allowing Ross Labs
to advertize on their Mother's guide to breastfeeding. However, not
surprised. We must remember that this is the group of professionals who give
out "breastfeeding formula packs" on a daily basis. PLEASE everyone--write.
I decided not to be too wordy, but to the point. Here is a copy of the post
I sent to Betty Crase and Ms. DeRosa:

Dear Ms. Crase/DeRosa,

I am sending this post to register my opposition with the AAP allowing
Ross Laboraties to advertize with logo on their "New Mother's Guide to
Breastfeeding". Breastfeeding advocates throughout the U.S. will be
completely angered by this conflict of interest. Would the American Lung
Association allow a cigarette or cigar company to advertize on their
anti-smoking pamphlets? Would you see ads for tanning salons on skin cancer
pamphlets? Perhaps so many pediatricians are used to giving out
"breastfeeding" formula packs from these companies that they don't see the
writing on the wall. Keeping formula labels on breastfeeding promotions
greatly undermine new mother's confidence to succeed. It sends a double
message that is not appropriate for an organization like the AAP. PLEASE GET
YOUR HEADS TOGETHER. If you need money, get breastfeeding friendly
advertizers into the picture!

Sincerely,

Debbie Albert, Ph.D., IBCLC*
