Dear Lactnetters:
I may have something new to ask all of you about: Pseudogout.
There is nothing in Lawrence or the brown book about this. Or my
conference notes, for that matter.
Mom, age 26. Older child born 6/92, nursed 14 mos. Foot lump
showed up as 2 small bumps on x-ray in 8/94. 2nd child born 10/95, still
nursing. Mom had surgery last week to have large, calcified lump (~2.4cm
diameter) removed from her foot.
The lump has been diagnosed as pseudogout, not yet crystallized.
Mom states lab tests show high cholesterol, high estrogen, high
calcium. Mom taking Zoloft for depression, was told depression due to
high estrogen level.
This mom is a friend, an LLL leader applicant, and has good
medical knowledge.
Do any of you know about pseudogout in the nursing mom, maybe
have some first-hand experience?

Margie Forrest, RN, BSN, IBCLC, still on cloud nine from the conference.
