I would be in agreement with requiring subscription for archive access for a
number of reasons.

There is a lot of personal information shared here on this discussion list -
more so than on some other private lists I belong to in fact. I would hate
to think that someone would use personal information gleaned form this list
for personal gain or as an end to harm, but it's always possible. This list
wouldn't be the same without the personal side of things being occasionally
available and shared.

It isn't that we have something to hide, but I think one post can readily be
taken out of context witout it's ensuing responses and predecessors.
Sometimes mothers and others from various places look up information here to
get advice. Do we want advice used without out knowledge or input? Is every
lay person capable of applying the context or assessing the situations in
which recommendations are made?

Every post is public - I doubt you find many lists - especially those where
medical or health advice is discussed, contested and supported - that are
public anymore. We can pretty much assume that many monitor this list whom
we would rather did not. That in and of itself may be reason to control
access.

Just my two cents.

Michelle -
Who had an old ex-flame look her up in the oddest of internet places
recently.
