Dear Friends:
After listening to a bunch of great lactation specialists at the Orlando
Conference, I learned that a fussy baby who gets better on formula may be
reacting to something in the mother's diet. And it isn't dairy. It could be a
lot of other things. Seems like the baby that gets "better" on formula is a
marker for intolerance of other foods.
I also heard that reflux is about 40% from intolerance to cow milk
proteins.
Peter Hartmann (long may he live and ask questions!!) brought up the idea
that the increase in allergies and intolerances may be due to the extreme
hygiene that many use in the developed countries. Babies who live in muck
don't get allergies as they are exposed to many more organisms. Interesting
idea, don't you agree? Of course, the "mucky babies" aren't necessarily
healthy, they may have parasites and other problems....but not intolerances
and allergies.
    What do you all think?
