I wanted to toss in two strategies I have used when
assessing breast changes during pregnancy (to screen
for hypoplasia). If Mom denies changes in the breast,
I specifically ask about changes in the color, size,
or shape of the areola itself. Many times, it seems,
women will notice this more than overall changes in
breast size or shape. Second trick: ask the lady's
partner if the breasts have changed...Mom may be
saying "no", while the partner, who likely looks at
them more often and from a different angle ;), is
nodding (his) head with an emphatic "YES". This is
also an easy way to break the ice and draw the partner
in to the BF teaching and discussion.
Okay. My youngest got up at 0500...lights out!
Carole
