This is a vent, so skip if you wish...

I just went back to work after being off for a week. I was disgusted,
bummed, angered, you name it, to find that the Mead Johnson rep had
been making the rounds, handing out sport-type water bottles with Lipil
advertising printed on them. They were all over our postpartum unit.
My initial impulse was to A) gather them all up and throw them in the
trash where they belong, or B) make stickers for them. Remember the
rubber stamp you could buy that said "This offends women" or something
to that effect? I wanted one that said, "This undermines family health
and well-being"! Or maybe one customized, especially for Lipil, which
claims to promote brain and eye development: "Promotes the profits of
our stockholders".

While in that mode, I spotted a flyer for a Mead Johnson "seminar" on
"infant nutrition", presented by an MD, and free of charge. Big
surprise. I couldn't stand it anymore! That was the last straw. I
added my own 2 cents to the flyer; under the byline "a discussion of
infant nutrition" I wrote "free formula advertising". I was gratified
to see that the sign up area at the bottom of the flyer was blank.
Perhaps a contingent of picketers could be assembled? A woman scorned
has nothing on a PO'd breastfeeding advocate! Mix in a little PMS and
you have a truly volatile combination.

I am so grateful to have Lactnet as a forum in which to ventilate. It
helps to know there are those who really do "get it"!

Warmly,
