We are having difficulties in our hospital with sizing patients who have babies in NICU with correct breast pump horns. Sometimes several pairs of horns are used before the correct size is found but my colleagues and I do not think that the patient should bear the cost of all these. Obviously the patient must pump for a few minutes to assess the size required and there would be milk on the horns .How do other hospital based LCs bill for these? Do you keep one pair of each size just for sizing purposes and then autoclave them, billing the patient only for the new, correct sized horns? Or maybe the horns are included in the overall NICU cost? I would be grateful for any suggestions.
  Thank you.
