Hello Lactnet Friends, Permission to post. Mother is gravida 2, baby was 9 lb. 5 oz. at birth, and is a big (20 lb.), exclusively breastfed six month-old boy who has been sleeping through the night since one month of age. Parents were both over 9 lb at birth.

She is only pumping a total of8-10 ounces, however the baby is drinking 10-20 ounces while mother is at work, so she has been using her dwindling frozen pumped milk to supplement. Solid foods have been introduced but baby isn't that interested.   Mother doesn't feel like she gets great stimulation with the breastpump and has tried different flange sizes with no better results. She has struggled inthe evenings since baby was about two weeks old with him being satisfied and has supplemented with her own breastmilk after a solid 45 minutes of breastfeeding. He’ll thendrink 2-4 ounces and be super content. On her days off work, mother breastfeeds baby every two hours, which seems to build her supply back up. Every morning she breastfeeds the baby on one breast, and pumps the other breast for the work separation milk. She occasionally pumps other times of day on her days off.
I have suggested a pumping session in the wee hours of the morning but mother consistently sleeps through her alarm. It seems to me this situation should ease when the baby begins to take more solids.I would be grateful for any advice for this mother.
Thanks,Molly Buchanan, BSN, RN, IBCLC
