Hi all, well after receiving opinions from all over, including masses of
help from so many of you wonderful people on Lactnet, and my LC Group, the
mother who was bitten by a rabid dog last Tuesday was still breastfeeding
her 4 1/2 mo old baby by Sunday when she went back to her farm.  And
yesterday I received this reassuring message from Dr Ruth Lawrence:

"There is no known risk to the infant of the rabies vaccine.  It is
an inactivated virus preparation that is given IM, implying that it is not
orally available.
        With respect to the rabies virus in the breast milk, it would only
occur during viremia.  This mother received her first vaccine within 4 hours
so viremia would not occur.
        Conclusion: No reason to limit or restrict breastfeeding.

Mom will be back in Harare tomorrow and I can give her the good news. Nice, huh?
