Hi Sheena,
I was so encouraged after attending the annual ILCA conference this year. There were LCs reporting success with achieving skin-2-skin in the OR during cesarean births! I asked one of the lactation consultants/nurse how she was able to accomplish this "coup". She said, "The mom's hospital gown is put on "backwards" with the ties in the front. When the baby is born, the nurse practitioner or pediatrician brings the baby to mom and does the initial assessment while mom and dad are supporting the baby...on mom's chest." AMAZING! Why aren't all of us doing that? It seems like such a simple thing to do...with immeasurable consequences!
I will be working on this one for a long time!
