Hi there

I've been lurking for months now, but finally feel compelled to respond to
two issues:
     1) Private replies....so many times I see "Please e-mail me privately"
at the end of a Lactnet question or request...WHY!!!! Isn't it possible that
there are several dozen others of us who are interested in the same
information...for example: diagnostic coding and reimbursement - who among us
is not struggling with THAT issue? It gets me crazy!!! I understand that
there may be some instances where the response would be better sent to a
specific person, but generally the whole idea of LACTNET is the sharing of
thoughts, ideas, problems, solutions...right? Perhaps the request for
private replies has to do with the number of people who state in their
posting that they are NOMAIL. So where does that leave the rest of us?
Those of us who faithfully read each issue in the persuit of
knowledge.....how about sharing?

     2) My other concern is about the whole "night nurse" thing. Having
been a night nurse for some time, let me say that there are MANY mothers who
have signs posted all over the crib about "no ABM, no pacifiers". Then night
shift starts, and the mom is exhausted from entertaining visitors all evening
and requests that the baby be fed in the nursery so she can get rested before
discharge tomorrow. Great :-( whose turn is it to be the wet nurse tonight?
The other side of the equation here is that parents need to understand that
nurses generally want to to the right thing. But nurses get double messages
too...like "I'm too tired to feed my baby tonight, no I don't want
rooming-in", but on the other hand "No pacifiers, no bottles, feed my baby in
the nursery tonight" I think there needs to be more attention to public
education in the areas of visitation after childbirth, parenting is a 24 hour
job, etc.

that's my $0.02 Thanks
