I have to disagree with the person who wrote that this mother will basically
do well with support (paraphrasing).
I must say that with her history (a previous lactation failure/FTT infant)
and her concerns that all is not going well, she should be taken very
seriously indeed.
I know that perceived insufficient milk supply is a leading factor in early
weaning, however I find that moms generally know when their infants are
unhappy and not satisfied, and usually they know that their supplies are
low. I know also that we say that pumping volumes don't equate with
breastfeeding milk transfers, and that is true, but I believe they do
correlate well, esp. if mother is using a hospital grade pump.
Having worked with many of these mother/baby dyads, it is imperative that
mother and baby recieve close followup. I would see if mother would try a
supplementer at breast.
