Lactnetters
I recently took a new postition opening a Lactation Dept. in a southern suburb of Phoenix. There is much to do. Lots of teaching and changing of 'old' habits. One of the first things to convince them of is that when a C.S.(sugar) level is O.K. that a baby is O.K. and doesn't need a feed. This becomes a problem when the baby is in it's sleep phase and many nurses believe that the baby needs to eat despite what the baby wants and the C.S. level being above the limit. One of their concerns is whether the baby is dehydrated. I know that there is a resource that states one wet diaper the first day, two wet diapers the second, etc. I ca't find it anywhere. Kathleen Bruce suggested it was in Ruth Lawrence. I poured thru the chapter on Post-Partum care and could not find it. Any other suggestions. I need to have documentation for these nurses.
Thanks for your help. Send comments to [log in to unmask] Thanks, Betsy Wells-Gephart RN, IBCLC, Chandler, AZ
