I would go to the www.abmfed.org The academy of breastfeeding
medicine. It has the protocols you are looking for Here's the
link.http://www.bfmed.org/ace-images/ProtocolSuppl3rev.pdf. Its hard being
the fish swimming against the current.
Brandi hang in there. Keep fighting the fight. We all have experienced the
same sorts of problems working in the hospitals.

I suggest you familiarize yourself with the website I sent you. It will give you
the evidence based information you are seeking. Watch out giving glucose to
a baby of a diabetic mom they need protein too. Try to explain to your moms
that keeping the baby on their chest will

1. keep them warm

2 help stabilize their glucose levels

3 babies will take the lead smelling mommy and start seeking the breasts even
in a prone position (good for moms fresh from c/s) as seen on
www.breastcrawl.org

4. reduce crying

5 colonize them with moms flora

6 stabilize their respiratory rate

Sounds like your hospital could use the SOFT training techniques. I would look
into this as well.

They won't be burning extra calories keeping warm, they should if left alone or
under your guidance go to the breast usually pretty quickly. Then the need
for supplement is no longer an issue.

feel free to contact me off list if you would like any more leads on some basics
for the staff.

best,
robin
