It never ceases to amaze me when those who supposedly should have something of a science background or at least a background in logic, fail to apply that logic. On the other hand humans are prone to suspend logic when it challenges their own belief systems. The most annoying lapses in logic in the breastfeeding arena include:

1) Breastfeeding is best, formula is just as good. (I think they should put this one on standardized tests -- my son just had to take one for the specialized high schools in New York City and logic was big).

2) Formula is thicker, so it has more calories. (I often get this from DIETICIANS - which makes me wonder when they lost the ability to read the caloric count on the containers of formula).

AND YES

3) Breastmilk is more nutritious than cow's milk, until the baby turns 1. Then cow's milk is better because breast milk turns to water. (So, do they test the age of the calves to determine when they have to stop milking cow's because somehow cow's milk will turn to water when the calf is of an equivalent age to a 1 year old infant? Hahaha -- can't imagine what dairy farmers would say about that one!)

Best, Susan Burger
