Very valid points made re pacing feeds. I think some folks look at the goal
as getting the food into the baby quickly and not to do so comfortably and
w/o causing harm (choking, aspiration). What do you think of using a Ross
premie nipple w/ a cross cut made in it and feeding that to a baby w/ a
cleft lip and palate? This just sounds horrendous to me. Another LC at
another hospital told me today that their hospital nicu does the same (mine
too) and this was recommended by a cleft specialist nurse at a local
Children's hospital. I asked about this recently and several of you
confirmed my horrors, but does anyone have a good reason to do this? Would
this be useful at all?
