In reguards to baby foods in bottles I would check with your local WIC
(Women, Infants, and Children) program. When I worked for WIC we had two or
three pamphlets that addressed that issue. Probably put out by USDA. One
of the reasons not to is that unless a baby is teething and has a large
increase in saliva they probably have not developed the digestive enzymes to
process solid foods yet. Therefore they just get turned to fat, or may get
rejected, as with the baby that kept throwing up solids. We always taught
moms to look for increase in saliva, chewing motion, teething, sitting with
support, and ability to swallow before introducing solids. An arbitrary age
- 4 or 6 months doesn't work. WATCH THE BABY - NOT THE CLOCK!
