I am behind in reading Lactnet, but would like to add just one more
metaphor.

Nipple confusion or preference is controversial at out hospital.  I
explain to parents that newborns are learning to nurse and that they
must suck differently on the breast and on a bottle.  Switching back and
forth can cause them confusion.  I compare it to a person learning two
foreign languages at the same time.  May say some words in French when
they meant to speak Spanish.
