Someone was asking about what effect it would have on those in the southern
hemisphere if world breastfeeding week changed to October:
In Australia, October used to be Breastfeeding Awareness Month. When World
Breastfeeding Week was declared in August, it meant more work and extra
promotion for Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia Consellors. Finally
we decided to change Breastfeeding Awareness Month to August, which is
during the coldest part of our winter.
A lot of NMAA Counsellors don't like the change, because it is too close to
NMAA's National Mothering Week in May.
I'm sure we'd be happy to see a change to October, which is mid-spring for us.
