As a medical imaging technologist (radiographer) I find this baby's problem
'interesting'.
Meg you haven't mentioned the extent of the fracture, is it depressed, are
there neurological signs associated with it, as the baby is in NICU?
Movement of the jaw - doesn't this happen when a baby cries, smiles, roots
etc
The head itself rests on a mattress, so = pressure; the head could rest on
an arm for feeding. Unless the baby has neurological signs or is 'clamped'
in some way to prevent all movement or sedated, don't babies move their
heads around of their own accord?
Have you seen people, children, babies with fractures, perhaps in plaster
casts, but still moving around in all sorts of directions.
Perhaps they are thinking about odd-shape skull molding because of the
fracture or neurological issues.
I presume this mother is not allowed to hold her baby at all? If she is
allowed to cuddle why can't she slip a nipple in too?
Bones heal, and with good nutrition, in the arms of her mother, I'm sure
this one can too.
I'd be interested to know more about the extent of the fracture that
requires such a result.
I look forward to your update on this
