Dearest Catherine,

You recently questioned why so many studies are willing to attack
co-sleeping and inform young parents of the "evils" of this practice.
You wondered if the authors of said studies were concerned about making
co-sleeping parents feel guilty.

Perhaps you haven't had the opportunity to read the posts from last week
concerning hand expression. You do realize that in America, it is our
highest duty as citizens of this nation to consume, whether it be infant
formula, breast pumps (this is NOT a slam on situations where breast
pumps are necessary or useful, rather on the idea that all breastfeeding
mothers need such an item), or infant sleeping surfaces and the related
bedding sold with them. You do realize that co-sleeping parents are, in
all likelihood, not spending as much money as parents who choose to
sleep separately from their children, and and for that reason alone
co-sleeping parents must be made to feel as guilty as possible.

Lynn Stuckey--in a very sarcastic mood right now
(who will be back at a future date with thoughts on Ludditism and life
in a gadgetry-driven culture, as soon as she has an opportunity to think
through what she wants to say and time to type it out.)
