If you have milk in long term storage as in a chest freezer where the temps stay more constant than in a front door freezer, I would say to look for drying or "freezer burn". The first hint of it and the milk must go. When your own food gets freezer burn, it won't make you sick but it has lost quality, flavor, & nutrients.
There are other signs, I'm sure, that others can elaborate on.
I've known women who had good frozen milk for a year or more and used it medicinally for older children's illnesses.

Yes I agree but is there a sure way to know if and when the stored milk is not fit for baby anymore except for tasting it.? Especially since breastmilk separates the fat when stored and all it needs is a stir.

Subject: milk storage guidelines

Dear Lactnet Friends:

There are many sources for milk storage guidelines on the Internet: CDC, ABM
LLLI, pump companies, HBMANA. The funny thing is that they are all
different!!

Fresh human milk is the most durable substance to put in the
refrigerator.....as long as its dishes are clean!

Sara Fein, at the 2009 APHA conference, discovered that women vary in their
styles of storing milk, and that it makes no difference.

warmly, and loving variety.
