Infant formulas differ in composition and price. Some formulas' fatty acid
blend use palm oil which interferes with calcium absorption and has been a
bit controversial. Store brand formulas are the least expensive. While the
WIC brand of formula in your state may be a logical choice it might not be
the best choice for formula-fed infants.The premium formulas come with a
premium price. Most mothers continue to use whatever formula was given to
the baby in the hospital. This will cost mothers, even WIC mothers,
considerable amounts of money compared to store brand formulas. Many
hospitals have started using pasteurized donor human milk for supplementing
breastfed infants when medically necessary. This is much safer than
supplementing with formula and reduces the alteration of the infant gut
microbiome.
