A mother gave birth to twins via C- section this week and she has so much
fluid (from before the birth as well) that when she tries to pump her nipple and
areola fill up with fluid and take on the shape of the pump flange tunnel. I
watched this happen yesterday when we changed to the extra-large flange, and
before five minutes had passed her nipple had expanded to be touching the sides
of the tunnel all the way to the nipple tip.

I know there was a recent discussion of edema, but I can't find it and for
some reason -- don't know if it's my computer -- a search doesn't work.

I remember someone mentioning that diuretics don't work and that positioning
on the back might help, but is there something else we can do for her? Babies
are not latching well, mom doesn't like gadgets, said the babies didn't do
well with a nipple shield, its Day 5, babies are jaundiced, mom is home and her
breasts are filled with milk and starting to get uncomfortable.
