When one is doing research, it is important to use
terminology that is standardized. If lots of research uses
the same terminology in their studies, then the results are
more reliable, valid and reproducible.
Also, it allows one to compare results among studies.
Miriam Labbock came up with a set of terms
for different types of infant feeding.

Studies in Family Planning, Vol 21, #4 1990, pp. 226-230.

There is a way to search for others who have referenced this
article. (kind of like doing references in reverse)
That may lead you to some other surveys that have used
the terminology, to see how standard it really is.

The terms and scales used can be tweaked from one study
to another, for the purposes of the study, but there should
be basic consistency between studies.
