Hi all.

Tried a search unsuccessfully. This scenario seemed familiar to me, then I
thought maybe I was thinking of the discussion of nausea following nursing.
A mother of an 8-wk.-old has been experiencing sharp pains throughout her
breasts after, but not during, nursing sessions. This is not nipple pain,
nor did she describe it as "shooting" pains, a la yeast. She had previously
experienced painful let-down (which, to a lesser degree, she still has); we
had had her follow an overactive MER/oversupply protocol (i.e. one-sided
feedings)after discussion of all symptoms. This was about a month ago. Baby
has been, and continues thriving. Mother has slightly off-center areola on
the right side, which seems to make some positions awkward. We discussed
varying positions to relieve neck/back/shoulder pulling. She feels she has
good posture. Mainly, she's been doing the straddle hold, also trying to
side-lie, though she feels her daughter is not taking in enough breast
tissue this way. It seems to me that this is a situation that might be
alleviated by chiropracting and/or acupuncture. Mother has tried
chiropracting previously (she does have sciatica) and not been happy with
the results. She likes the idea of acupuncture. Basically, she wants to
continue breastfeeding, but is frustrated with the continuing pain after feeds.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the incredible wisdom, insight and thought-provoking
discussion. I feel that I've gained so much from this list!
