<...now I have a client whose baby is 4.5 mo, she is on her 6th bout with =
mastitis, and being treated with zithromax ("double dose") X10 d...>

This is azithromycin, which is not specifically an anti-staph drug. I wonder
why the doctor is using this. Does she mean that she has taken this
antibiotic 6 times, or that she has tried different antibiotics?
When I was writing the protocol on mastitis for the Academy of Breastfeeding
Medicine I cited the Australian Antibiotic Guidelines, and asked several
times if the US has a similar publication (didn't receive a response).
Our guidelines recommend flucloxacillin, dicloxacillin or cephalexin.
I am still interested to hear if the US has guidelines for professionals to
follow.

MBBS, MMed, IBCLC in Melbourne - just back from Public Health Association of
Australia conference in Adelaide - lots of interesting discussions with
people about breastfeeding. In general, public health researchers very
sympathetic to breastfeeding, but not familiar with current issues.
