Kathleen Huggins and Ellen Petok published an article in last year's
Current Issues in Clinical Lactation on markers of lactation
insufficiency. THey found that some women with hypoplastic breasts took
up to 4 weeks to reach a full milk supply, and others never did. I
don't think it is unrealistic to encourage a mother to try as long as
she has resources to do so and supply and infant skills seem to be
progressing.
