I can't say that a haberman is any better alternative than any other
alternative feeding device. I agree with whoever it was (I think Barbara
Wilson Clay or Catherine Watson Genna) that the alternative feeding method
needs to be geared toward the baby's capabilities, responses, and the
therapeutic goal. one baby may do best with finger-feeding, another with
cup-feeding, and another with bottle feeding. We must treat all babies as
individuals and pay attention to how they respond to our interventions. When
working with a sucking problems we are doing therapy, and it is our job to
ensure we first do no harm in the process!

we desperately need some research to address these issues of what devices
cause the least amount of stress in general (I strongly suspect that
cup-feeding is going to be a big stressor) but first we need to learn what we
are looking at. i found Meyer Palmers work on oral motor function and
sensory-based feeding problems to be incredibly helpful!
