I have found some articles on the subject with a research on pubmed
("nipple stimulation labour").
Here are a couple, for example (there are more):
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7839936
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9107114
I do not have access to the full studies, cannot judge their worth....
I would appreciate to know your opinions

This could be a practical reason: it seems more "medical" (how can a
doc. induce by nipple stimulation without being sued for harassment???)
and perhaps more predictable. I have, however, heard anecdotal stories
of induction by nipple stimulation, suggested by midwives etc., which
worked.
