Jan states: "her recommendation for treatment of sore nipples was vaseline covered with saran wrap.her recommendation for treatment of sore nipples was vaseline covered with saran wrap."

This peeked my interest because I just had a mom about 3 weeks ago with sore nipples related to improper latches who refused to use hydrogels, but told me a friend told her that vaseline on the nipples worked for her. This mom told me she used the vaseline and that it worked to heal her nipples. Of course, I also helped her to correct her latch and increase her milk volume simultaneously. But, since I wasn't aware of evidence to support the use of vaseline for sore nipples, I did not comment in support of her choice to use it, but simply kept quiet so that she could be empowered on her own. I'm not promoting its use now as I still don't feel there's enough evidence to support its use, but I also passively permit alternative methods to be used by moms as long as no harm is done. I would feel compelled ethically to inform should a case be harmful to a mom or to a baby.
