"She had stopped pumping since it was physically and emotionally draining

to her, totally unproductive and taking time away from her baby. Since

she's had a break and is now doing so many things to increase her

supply, she decided to try pumping again, this time with a rented

hospital grade pump. However, it's yielding the same results. We've

covered pumping tips (heat, massaging/shaking breasts, breast

compression), she's tried different timing - immediately post feeds and

'in between feeds" (which is tough b/c she puts him to the breast on cue

between supplemented nursings). Regardless of what she's doing, she's

getting almost nothing from the pump - about 1/2 oz over the course of

several pumping sessions."

Remind mom that it takes time to get used to pumping. Output may be poor
initially, however, with persistence, her body will get used to it and her
output will increase. Also, pump output does not accurately represent her
milk supply. For now, this may be the best way to get her milk to her child
rather than supplementing with ABM or utilizing someone else's milk.
