This came up after a quick surf - caffeine, theophylline and theobromine are easily oxidised to
uric acid, and studies in birds suggest bacteria in the gut prevent crystal formation. Could we
be seeing either the after effects of a mother who consumes a lot of coffee or cola products,
or a self-limiting effect until the new-born's gut is colonised? Have the mothers been on
antibiotics? Interesting to speculate.

The only case I have heard of was a baby with tongue tie, who probably was de-hydrated.
